Black Sheep of the Family
The Legend of Zelda has its “Adventures of Link,” Mario has its “Super Mario Bros 2” (at least in North America), and Fire Emblem has its “Fire Emblem Gaiden.”
A side story to the original Fire Emblem, Gaiden introduces new concepts and plays around with unique ideas that the rest of the series would opt to ignore. Among these are a world map, a two party system, enemy monsters, and even RPG-style town exploration. Although this was a departure from the original system, Intelligent Systems would eventually pay homage to the game by releasing Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones which recycles some of Gaiden‘s gameplay elements.
